SEASONAL TREND
The 2016 vintage, like 2015, will be remembered as optimal. Autumn and winter were mild, with below-zero temperatures only in January. Rainfall was significant. Spring temperatures were normal. May and June were warm and humid, with some losses during fruit set and two hailstorms that caused a sort of natural thinning, reducing the production quantity per plant. The summer was hot and dry. Rare rain events between late July and August provided relief to the plants, helping them during the veraison phase. The harvest period, which began in early September, was characterized by relatively high daytime temperatures for the season, with strong temperature fluctuations at night, a phenomenon beneficial for the accumulation of phenolic compounds.
